Freedom Isn’t Free Military Tribute T‑Shirt

Ten-inch silver letters cut into black granite, on a wall extending into the Pool of Remembrance at the Korean War Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. The Memorial was dedicated on July 27, 1995 — forty-two years to the day after the armistice that ended the war. The phrase itself predates the Memorial. It was coined in the 1980s by Colonel Walter Hitchcock, a retired U.S. Air Force officer at the New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell.

The Korean War lasted three years. From June 25, 1950 to July 27, 1953, 5.8 million Americans served in uniform; 36,574 died in hostile action. Korea is sometimes called the Forgotten War — fought between two larger ones, ended without victory, fading from public memory while the men who fought it carried it home in silence. Hitchcock's line was a refusal of that forgetting. So is the Memorial. So is this tee.
